The Teotihuacan Skull

Xibalba is the name of the Maya Underworld. It translates into “Place of Fear.” Darkness and peril surround those who travel in Xibalba. The Maya believed all must make the journey upon death.

The picture accompanying Reina is of a Xibalban festival in modern day Guatemala. Notice the horn in the forehead. Facing this demon in Xibalba after death must be very frightening.

Within Reina you can see a Xibalban with a horn in its forehead and lighted eyes. It is chained by the neck to prevent it from interacting with humans.
